STUDENT/TEACHER/FAMILY ISSUE

Description:
A third grade student who shows signs of ADD. Parents are not willing to have him tested. He does well for the first 20 minutes of class but then decides he must get up and wander.

Hypotheses:
Teacher is frustrated because student is not getting the help he needs and the parents are not acknowledging the problem.

Theories behind practice:

Impact on others:
Self control.

Solutions:
Try to give him extra jobs such as washing boards, sorting etc., so he has reason for activity. Send notes to office regarding his behavior. Give alternative assignments that will be shorter in duration. Possibly videotape class periods to show his behavior in comparison with other students. Document daily behavior and attempts taken to control student. Conference with parents and administration with documented behavior.
