STUDENT/TEACHER/FAMILY ISSUE
Description:
I have a student who exhibits low self-esteem, signs of depression and is completely disorganized. His father died last year in a rather violent manner and he lives with his mother and stepfather. His mother is completely against having him meet with the school social worker.
Hypotheses:
Teacher feels helpless to find help for this child. Probably the behavior is a reflection on the home situation. Parents fighting, splitting up and death may be part of the cause of his behavior. May be clinical depression.
Theories behind practice:
Impact on others:
Solutions:
Work with administration to take some steps to get counseling for this child. Keep records of behavior on a daily basis and use it to conference with mother. Ask the school counselor to come in and observe his behavior and meet with you, administrators and mother.
