As a classroom teacher, you feel helpless. Our district wants us to do better than other districts. There are many unanswered questions. Colleges want hard test scores.

Do we teach to the test or should the test match the curriculum being taught? The Administration wants to be able to show taxpayers that the test scores are high. Every school in the district has a different report card.
Talk to the Principal about the concerns. Discuss it with the curriculum office. Utilize the opportunity of site-based schools and address the issues at that level with some possible alternative recommendations and compromises. Initiate this discussion at the District Wide Assessment Task Force meetings that have just been started. Check on the list of assessments for each grade level available with MCAT. Decide what is essential.
