Program: Pastoral Ministry Certificate Program Code: (THEO) Program Faculty: Spencer* (*program coordinator) Program Description: The purpose of the pastoral ministry certificate program is to prepare individuals for ministry in today's church and society. The program integrates three necessary components of effective ministry: theological depth, pastoral experience and spirituality. Students may acquire the certificate either with or without a baccalaureate degree, or while pursuing the masters of arts degree in theology. Specific components of the certificate program required for all students are: The learning contract, through which the student sets concrete objectives to attain personal goals in ministry. A set of required courses as noted below: B.A. Non-Theology Majors and Certificate-Only Students Six courses to include: THEO210 New Testament Studies THEO240 The Identity and Mission of Jesus Christ THEO260 The Mystery Called Church or THEO 280 Christian Sacramentality THEO220 Christian Ethics or THEO285 Social Justice: A Christian Perspective THEO302 Pastoral Theology THEO306 Issues in Pastoral Theology Depending on specific internship arranged: THEO775 Practicum B.A. Theology Majors Courses for the theology major must include: THEO302 Pastoral Theology THEO306 Issues in Pastoral Theology M.A. Degree-Seeking and Graduate Certificate-Only Students THEO602 Pastoral Theology THEO606 Issues in Pastoral Theology Four M.A. courses, including at least one from each sequence: scriptural, historical, doctrinal, spirituality THEO775 Practicum Theological Field Education is a supervised internship in a pastoral setting. The internship is arranged by the student in consultation with the coordinator. Depending on the specific internship arranged, registration for THEO475 Practicum is required for certificate-only students. Registration for the practicum is not required for degree-seeking undergraduate students. Graduate students register for THEO775 Practicum.
