SYSTEMIC POLICY ISSUE

Description:
This teacher teaches in a less structured class and often has students with learning disabilities mainstreamed into her classes. Often they come without a paraprofessional. She feels it is her responsibility to make her class work for these students but is lacking in the appropriate background and training to make the appropriate adaptations. Also, because her class has a looser structure, has lots of hands-on learning, with students given lots of freedom and lots of stimulation, these students could benefit from the support of a paraprofessional. She has been told that funding is an issue.
