Situation/Case Study:
STUDENT BEHAVIOR

Description:
I have a fourth grade student who is very hyperactive. Parents do not want him tested. He cannot help his behavior and is very disruptive in class. He tries to stop and cannot control it. He tends to get everyone going. Most of the time I have to isolate him away from the other students, which he hates. He is a good kid except for this problem.

Hypotheses:
Teacher is very frustrated because nothing is working to correct the behavior. Student may be frustrated because his learning is being disrupted and his home life is not what he wants.

Theories behind practice:

Impact on others:

Solutions:
Videotape classroom and use it for conferencing with parents so they see his behavior. Invite parents into the classroom. Try to modify his assignments so they are shorter with breaks in between. Perhaps work for 10 minutes and go get a drink and/or bathroom. Keep a chart of accomplishments each day. When he begins to get others going, divert his attention by having him do something for you or give him an assignment.
