Require class completion of both quarters before receiving semester grade (consider policy changes). Celebrate the students thaility. Bring in returning student (graduate) as a guest speaker. Change credit-semester requirement. Focus on learner motivation. Alert deans to the problem--do not allow students to automatically drop the class. Consider parental support.
