CURRICULUM AND TEACHING

Description:
So many of today's kids come from situations of divorce, abuse, neglect, and no breakfast. They are often depressed, lack self-control, lack basic skills. With 27 to 35 children in a class meeting their individual needs, especially their need to have quality interactions with an adult, are a real strain. There is not enough support in the way of social workers and counselors. Some students, due to Special Education labels cannot be treated in the same way for violent behavior, yet they can act out and hurt other students opening up the opportunity for law suits. Often parents are not available or are totally non-supportive of the school. Yet teachers are expected to help kids overcome all these odds and learn.
