SYSTEMIC POLICY ISSUE
The teacher is concerned about planning for the future of one of her students. He is a "Fragile X" child, who has some mental retardation and some autism, he is very unpredictable and is missing an X. He currently has two paraprofessionals who take turns working with him. He has made great gains in reading. The question is should he remain with the teacher with whom he has finally made such strong progress or be promoted with his peers. The principal thinks he should be promoted but with only one paraprofessional. The teacher wants all of the people who work with the child to meet with the principal, the child and the parent to decide what is in the child's best interest.
