Situation/Case Study:

A student in an ESL class is always fooling around with peers. In other classes he seems to behave. The teacher has tried reasoning with him and finally resorted to putting him in the hall where he did get down to work. He is a bright student and isn't using his ability.

Note: I (the scribe) had typed in all the hypotheses and thrown away the slips they were on then failed to save. Thus the hypotheses for this day are lost. They were all very similar and something like the following: The teacher felt frustrated that the student was disrupting her class when she knew from his behavior in other classes that he was capable of appropriate behavior. She also hated to see him waste his ability fooling around. She tried appropriately a couple of interventions. Although he worked better isolated from his peers, she couldn't leave him in the hall all the time.
