Pre-Veterinary Medicine (prevet)
Application for admission to a veterinary school is normally made during the senior year of college. To be eligible for admission, you must complete a series of specific prerequisite courses as part of your undergraduate program at St. Catherine's. While prerequisite requirements vary in detail, all emphasize course work in the natural sciences. However, because veterinary schools do not require a specific academic major for admission, you may complete these prerequisite courses as part of an undergraduate program that includes any major of your choosing.
The prerequisite courses that are often required for admission to veterinary school include the following:
BIOL 1710, 1720 Foundations of Biology I and II
BIOL 2900 Genetics
BIOL 3210 Biology of Microorganisms or BIOL 2200 Introduction to Microbiology
CHEM 1110, 1120 General Chemistry
CHEM 2010, 2020 Organic Chemistry
CHEM 4400 Biochemistry
PHYS 1080, 1090 Physics for the Health Sciences or 1110, 1120 Introductory Physics
English composition (2 courses)
MATH 1110 and 1120 Functions with Calculus 1A and 1B or MATH 1130 Calculus I or college algebra
Four courses in history, social sciences, arts, and humanities (generally satisfied by the liberal arts core requirements)
