Program Code: (BADM)

Program Faculty:

Program Description:
The accounting certificates are designed for women and men who would like to develop or upgrade accounting skills, which would lead to employment as accountants or in related fields. Note: To sit for the CPA exam, one must have a baccalaureate degree with the equivalent of an accounting major. Accounting certificate II provides the equivalent of an Accounting major.

Course descriptions appear in the listings for Business Administration (BADM), Economics (ECON), Information Management (INFM) and Mathematical Sciences (MATH) in this catalog.

ACCOUNTING CERTIFICATE I
To achieve this certificate, the following six courses must be taken in sequence:

BADM 211 Financial Accounting
BADM 213 Managerial Accounting
BADM 311 Intermediate Accounting I
BADM 312W Intermediate Accounting II
BADM 412 Cost Accounting
BADM 413 Auditing
A maximum of two of these courses may be transferred from another college into the certificate program. The transferable courses are Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting.

ACCOUNTING CERTIFICATE II
Students must have completed all the courses required for certificate I before entering certificate II. The number of courses needed for certificate II depends on the student's previous course work and experience in accounting and business. Minimally, three courses must be completed at the College of St. Catherine in order to earn the certificate; a maximum of seven courses may be required.

Accounting Certificate II provides the equivalent of an accounting major; thus, it is especially appropriate for those whose baccalaureate degrees were earned in an unrelated field or whose majors emphasized another area of business. Students work with the certificate coordinator in planning which courses to take to be eligible for the CPA exam. Beginning in 2006, 150 semester credit hours will be required to gain the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure in Minnesota. Students needing additional credit may consider the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership program.

Achievement of Certificate II includes the following courses:
BADM 315 Income Tax
BADM 365 Business Law
BADM 410 Advanced Accounting
