Program Description:
Les spécialistes en français améliorent leur connaissance de la langue, de la littérature et de la civilisation françaises à tous les niveaux. Ils découvrent une ambiance intellectuelle et sociale où l'étude des pays francophones et le perfectionnement du français de chaque étudiant s'imposent.

French majors better their knowledge of French language, literature and civilization by taking enriching programs taught in French at all levels. They discover an intellectual climate that helps them to improve their French and learn about French-speaking countries.

The French major is available in the Day Program. Weekend College offers only Elementary French I and II and Intermediate French I.

The French Department Senior Seminar

All French majors are encouraged to study in a French-speaking country. Courses taken abroad, with prior approval of the department chair, may apply to the major. Those qualified in language and business are eligible to apply for a semester of study at the Institut de Gestion (Business Administration Program) at the Université de Rennes, France. Summer internships in French companies also may be arranged.

K-12 TEACHING LICENSURE
Students interested in teaching French at the elementary or secondary level are encouraged to consult a faculty member in the French department about French course program planning, methodology course and letters of recommendation. APPLIED FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMPONENT
Students at the post-intermediate level may have the possibility of applying a foreign language in the study of another discipline. For further information, consult the language departments.

French majors satisfy the Writing Requirement for Majors by completing FREN 305W and FREN 306W. They complete the Liberal Arts and Sciences Core Writing Requirement with two other writing-intensive courses (CORE 100W and CORE 399W).
