COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

CIL 1400 HEALTH JUSTICE 2 cr.
In this course, you will study the connection between health and social justice through examination of the politics of health inequities, social determinants of health, and health as a human right. You will understand the connection between health justice and active civic engagement on the part of healthcare providers. You will explore leadership and policy-making as they relate to health justice.

CIL 1500 TRANSCULTURAL LEARNING THROUGH COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS 2 CR.
The purpose of this course is to enhance your self-awareness and ability to function in groups, including the transdisciplinary healthcare team. The emphasis is on the development of culturally competent communication and an understanding of and commitment to social justice issues as they relate to you as an individual, as a healthcare worker, and as a member of society. A service learning experience is incorporated into the class to provide opportunities to practice transcultural communication and to explore the impact of various social justice issues in the local community.
