St. Kate’s dietetics major offers you a solid foundation in food, nutrition and management that is supported with chemistry, biology and social sciences. The Dietetics Program is accredited as a Didactic Program in Dietetics by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE) of the American Dietetics Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, Ill 60606-6995, (312) 899-5400.
Completing the dietetics program at St. Kate’s enables you to pursue graduate study in nutrition or apply for an accredited dietetic internship anywhere in the United States. Upon completion of the internship, you will be able to write the registration examination. After passing the exam, you can use the professional credential, Registered Dietitian (RD). One hundred percent of St. Kate’s dietetics students have passed the registration exam.
St Kate’s graduates are employed in many settings, including healthcare facilities and clinics, food companies, the foodservice industry, public health centers, colleges, nutrition consulting, food and nutrition research, or as an entrepreneur in private practice. St Kate’s graduates serve in leadership positions in district, state and national dietetic associations. A St. Kate’s alum has served as the president of the American Dietetic Association.
At St. Kate’s, you’ll find special research opportunities, including the 3M Large and Small Scale Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Grants, which support faculty and students who collaborate in conducting original projects based on mutual interests in science or technology. In recent years, St. Kate’s students have partnered with faculty on projects about the effects of adding ground golden flax to wheat bread and nutritional factors affecting osteoporosis.
The College’s Center for Women, Science and Technology serves as a resource for dietetics majors. It seeks to research and promote women-centered, innovative teaching and learning experiences in science and technology; develop strategies that foster and enable women’s pursuit of science and technology fields at all stages of education; support student-faculty collaborative research and advance the College of St. Catherine’s leadership in preparing teachers and professionals who have a strong grounding in mathematics, science and technology. The Center invites and encourages student involvement.
As an entering first year student you will be eligible for one of two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 per year for four years. To compete for this scholarship, you must:
• Maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average
• Participate in extracurricular activities
• Apply and be accepted to St. Kate’s by February 15

Related work experience is required for dietetics students who wish to apply for a dietetic internship. All dietetic students are required to complete a portfolio.
Transfer students may need to complete more than five courses (20 credits) of the major field in residence in order to complete the didactic program in dietetics.
Dietetics majors satisfy the Writing Requirement for Majors and the fourth writing course by completing FSNU 4210 and FSNU 4300. You complete the Liberal Arts and Sciences Core Writing Requirement with two other writing intensive courses (CORE 1000 and CORE 3990).
