CRITICAL STUDIES OF RACE AND ETHNICITY MINOR

The CRST minor consists of a total of 20 credits

Required courses:
CRST 2050 Foundations of Critical Studies of Race and Ethnicity
CRST 3510 Sociology of Race and Ethnicity

Twelve additional credits:
The 12 additional credits must be taken from the list of cross-listed courses listed for the CRST major. Two of the courses must be at the 2000- or 3000-level and one must be global.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT MINOR

The civic engagement minor is an interdisciplinary minor that recognizes the significance of active civic participation and an engaged citizenry in achieving systemic change. The minor is grounded in the commitment to encouraging an active involvement in the discourse dealing with the need to develop and utilize knowledge for the improvement of society, to use talents and offer wisdom for the greater good, and to provide opportunities for education in the spirit of a democratic society. A civically educated and engaged citizen is one who is skilled in coalition-building, collaboration, negotiation and synthesis of multiple perspectives. The goal of the civic engagement minor is to create an opportunity for critical analysis, reflection on and engagement in ethical civic engagement that evokes hope and systemic change.

In addition to course work, you will be required to compile a portfolio of your work, attend at least one event sponsored by the Center for Women, Economic Justice and Public Policy, and engage in an exit interview.

The civic engagement minor complements majors in any of the professions or the liberal arts. It is also particularly useful to those seeking careers in health and human services, education, business, government, law, criminal justice or public policy.
