Associate of Arts Program

Department: Liberal Arts and Sciences
Program Director: TBD
Program Option: A.A.

The associate of arts program at St. Kate’s is all about getting started. It’s about getting a good start on your college studies and earning credits toward a bachelor’s degree in a small, supportive environment. The College of St. Catherine offers an associate of arts degree program designed to give you an opportunity to develop academic competencies while exploring various educational and career options.

The program is open to women and men. While many St. Catherine’s students are enrolled in bachelor’s programs limited to women, both men and women students can enroll in the associate of arts program.

After one year or more in the associate of arts program, you may transfer into bachelor’s degree programs at different colleges and universities. Women in this program can make a smooth transition after one year to the College of St. Catherine St. Paul campus, where they continue on with more courses for a St. Kate’s bachelor’s degree. All courses from the associate degree program can be applied to St. Kate’s four-year baccalaureate programs unless otherwise stated (students wishing to enroll in other four-year institutions should consult with their advisors about the transferability of the courses).

As a student in the associate of arts degree program, you will select one of three curricular options: arts and sciences, education paraprofessional or healthcare.
The arts and sciences option prepares you to transfer to a four-year baccalaureate program. It requires 64 semester credits including completion of the liberal arts and sciences core, associate of arts program required courses and 24 elective credits. Four semesters and one summer session are required to complete the degree.

The education paraprofessional option prepares you to work as a teaching aide in K-12 schools. It also lays the foundation for a bachelor’s degree with an education major. The degree requires 60 semester credits including completion of the liberal arts and sciences core and course work in education, education ethics, immigrants and refugee issues, and psychology. Four semesters and one summer session are required to complete the degree.

The healthcare option prepares you for enrollment in four-year baccalaureate programs as a healthcare major. The degree requires 64 semester credits including completion of the liberal arts and sciences core and intensive science course work in anatomy and physiology and microbiology. Four semesters and one summer session are required to complete the degree.

The College of St. Catherine Minneapolis campus, where the associate of arts courses are held, is a small learning environment where you can live, go to classes, study in a library, access computing services, gather with other students and take advantage of a wide variety of supportive services.
