Spanish (SPAN)
SPANISH MINOR
Prerequisite:
SPAN 1120 Elementary Spanish II with a grade of B or higher.
The minor consists of five courses.
Required courses:
SPAN 2250 Visions of the Hispanic World: Reading to Speak & Write (bridge course)
SPAN 3250 Advanced Spanish: Introduction to Critical Analysis of Literature
One to three* of the following courses:
SPAN 2110 Intermediate Spanish I
SPAN 2120 Intermediate Spanish II
SPAN 3160 Hispanics in the United States
One to three courses at the 3000- or 4000-level, selected in consultation with an advisor in the Spanish Department:
SPAN 3550 Galdos and the Generation of 1898
SPAN 3700 Contemporary Spanish American Literature
SPAN 4000 Hispanic Masterpieces
SPAN 4100 Hispanic Women Writers
SPAN 4604 Internship (4 cr.)
SPAN 4954 Independent Study (when warranted)
SPAN 4994 Topics
SPAN 4860 Senior Seminar
*If you place into SPAN 2110 and/or 2120 you may count it/them toward the minor. Thereafter, you will need to take SPAN 2120 (if applicable), SPAN 2250 (bridge course) and 3250, in addition to one or two courses at the 3000- or 4000-level (for a total of five 4-credit courses or 20 credits). If you place into the bridge course you will have fulfilled the University's language requirement, but will still need to complete SPAN 3250 and an additional three 3000- or 4000-level courses (with a minimum grade of C) to fulfill requirements for the minor.
