Major and Degree Requirements

In order to complete a Bachelors Degree, you must fulfill the following requirements:


BACCALAUREATE LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES CORE REQUIREMENTS


BACHELOR OF ARTS
  • CORE 1000 The Reflective Woman
  • CORE 3990 Global Search for Justice
  • WRITING INTENSIVE (one course in any department beyond the CORE and MAJOR requirement)
  • FINE ARTS (one course in either art, music, theater, or classical mythology)
  • PHYSICAL EDUCATION (two—one credit courses or completion of EXSS 1030, Health Fitness and Lifestyle Issues)
  • HISTORY (one course)
  • LITERATURE (one course that involves careful reading of any literary genre taken within an English department. Children’s and Adolescent Literature courses will not fulfill this requirement.)
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: Students must successfully complete 3 terms of the same language. Successful completion of 3 years in high school with a grade of C or better will also meet this proficiency.
    FOREIGN LANGUAGE—ELEMENTARY ONE
    FOREIGN LANGUAGE—ELEMENTARY TWO
    FOREIGN LANGUAGE—INTERMEDIATE ONE
  • LABORATORY SCIENCE (one lab based course in either biology, chemistry, geology, or physics)
  • MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS (both MATH 1110 and 1120, or any other MATH course numbered 1050 or higher (except MATH 2050), or ECON 2220, ECON 2250 or PSYC 2050)
  • SOCIAL SCIENCE (one course in either anthropology, economics, geography, political science, psychology or sociology, except ECON 2200 or 2250 or PSYC 2050)
  • PHILOSOPHY (one course, excluding PHIL 2100 and/or PHIL 2150)
  • THEOLOGY (one 1000- or 2000-level course that involves the study of a Christian-based theological tradition)
  • One additional course in either Philosphy or Theology, including PHIL 2100 and PHIL 2150

  • PHILOSOPHY (one course, excluding PHIL 2100 and/or PHIL 2150)
  • THEOLOGY (one 1000- or 2000-level course that involves the study of a Christian-based theological tradition)


TOTAL AND RESIDENCY CREDITS
  • A minimum of 130 semester credits including:
    a) completion of the liberal arts core requirements for either the B.A. or B.S. degree, as appropriate to the major;
    b) acceptance into and completion of the requirements for an approved major;
    c) a minimum of 80 semester credits outside the major.
  • Completion of the College residency requirement of a minimum of 64 semester credits.
    This residency requirement is reduced to a minimum of 48 semester credits at St. Catherine’s if 57 or more semester credits are transferred prior to enrollment at St. Catherine’s.
  • Completion of the senior residency requirement of 24 of the last 32 semester credits in residence.


GPA REQUIREMENT
  • A cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
