Alumnae Association Needs New Name Too!

Time for a New Name for Us Too!

As St. Catherine transitions to a university, we need to transition from the College of St. Catherine Alumnae Association to something new.
We need your input: e-mail us at alumnae@stkate.edu or call the Alumnae Association Office (651-690-6666).

The Alumnae Association Board has discussed the following possible new names:
  • St. Catherine University Alumnae Association

  • St. Catherine University Graduate Association
  • St. Catherine University Association of Alumnae and Alumni
  • Association of St. Catherine Alums
  • Association of St. Catherine Graduates

Please Tell Us Which Name Is Your Favorite and Why.
Here are some criteria the Alumnae Association Board has considered while discussing potential names:
  • The new name should show our link to St. Catherine University.
  • It should make it clear who the association represents and why it exists.
  • The new name should honor tradition.
  • It should not be too long.
  • We do not want anyone to feel excluded. (The Latin alumnae means females and alumni, males. The American English alum is singular, female or male; alums is the plural but is not appropriate for formal use.)
  • The name should appropriately reflect the change of St. Catherine to a university.
  • Each population of the university (undergraduate, associate, graduate) should understand we are here for them and their graduates.

Next Steps
The Alumnae Association Board welcomes feedback from all alumnae regarding potential names for the association.

  • February to May All alumnae are invited to share their thoughts regarding potential names for the association.
  • May 11 -- Members of the Alumnae Association will offer input on a new name during the Annual Meeting.
  • June REUNIONS -- Attendees will offer input.
  • Fall 2009 -- Over the summer, the Association will narrow the field of choices and announce the process and timeline for the final name change.
