"The Simple Garden"
Connects Alumnae, Staff, and Students
in a Naturally Growing Experience
The St. Catherine Simple Garden links alumnae, students, faculty, staff, and all of their families in a fun, hands-on experience learning about organic gardening and food production. Many people don't have room for a garden or the chance for their families to learn about where food comes from, so this is one way to pass down knowledge about the art of gardening while getting the benefit of the vegetables and herbs for your kitchen.
Come on Tuesdays, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to join in the fun. The more the merrier! We'd like to have at least 15 gardeners -- growing veggies, fruit, herbs, and flowers -- and we can share the bounty. Each gardener or family will have an individual plot and then there will be shared plots of flowers and herbs (there's always enough to go around!). Everyone can share, barter, and trade what they grow. In past years, the oregano got so big we could never use it all. We hope to have a good turn-out on the gardening days -- perhaps even have potluck picnic lunches at the garden.
We plan to utilize our compost bin even more this year, by bringing food waste from home to the garden. We are hoping that passers-by don't put their doggie-doo bags in there as they have done in the past.
