Highlights of Our 90th Anniversary Historic Trip! The alumnae trip to Colonial Williamsburg, sponsored by the College of St. Catherine Alumnae Association’s Lifelong Learning Committee, turned out to be great fun and full of lots of historical and social events.
Here is the group at Anne Ryan Cooke's '81 and her husband's home.
Celebrating the 90th year of the Alumnae Association and the 70th anniversary year of the College's Phi Beta Kappa Chapter, our alumnae group arrrived in Williamsburg on Friday, November 2 and left on Tuesday, November 6, 2007.

Alumnae and family stayed in the historic Market Square Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg where they met with "Thomas Jefferson" during a welcome reception.

They heard from colonial musicians, historic interpreters and colonial craftspeople. Anne Ryan Cooke '81 and her husband Bruce hosted the group at their home for a dinner reception.

Phi Beta Kappa started in Williamsburg's Raleigh Tavern, and the College of St. Catherine was the first Catholic college to receive a Phi Beta Kappa charter. In celebration of this historic event, we enjoyed a talk at the Raleigh Tavern by the Phi Beta Kappa historian! We were able to toast to history in group dinners at colonial taverns and side trips to Jamestown and Yorktown.

The trip was arranged so that we were totally immersed in the 18th century for 5 days and 4 nights, by lodging in period accommodations in the Historic Area where our founding families once lived. These Colonial Houses were furnished with antiques and period reproductions.
Colonial Williamsburg presented a living, breathing town in the years preceding and during the American Revolution, with performers in period dress and activities. The Historic Area spanned 301 acres with 88 original buildings and more than 500 meticulously reconstructured architectural gems. |
