Wildcat soccer defeats Wartburg

September 6, 2007 - The College of St. Catherine soccer team defeated Wartburg College in their first home game of the season on Thursday afternoon. The 2-1 win is the second straight for the Wildcats. The Wildcats are coming off a weekend where they won the Advantage Emblem Cup Tournament hosted by St. Scholastica.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute on a goal by Sam Kreibich (Fy., La Crescent, Minn.). In the 71st minute, Wartburg drew even on a goal by Amber Bennett. With less than 10 minutes to play the Wildcats grabbed the lead and the victory on a goal by Clare Saunders (Fy., Hastings, Minn.)

“We did an excellent job today on capitalizing on the few chances that we did have,” stated Wildcat head coach Steve Bellis. “Our defense played very well against a physical team and it was nice to get some production out of our first year players once again,” added Bellis.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday when they host Clarke College at 1:00 pm.


Wildcat soccer wins Advantage Emblem Cup
September 1, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine soccer team won the St. Scholastica Advantage Emblem Cup Tournament on Saturday afternoon. With the 4-2 win over Northland College the Wildcats overtook second place St. Scholastica. MORE

September 1, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine volleyball team got a pair of wins on the second day of the Red Dragon Invitational in Oneonta, NY. With the wins the Wildcats finished the tournament with a 2-2 record. MORE

September 1, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine soccer team defeated Northland College 4-2 today in the second game of the St. Scholastica Advantage Emblem Cup. The win for the Wildcats comes on the heels of 0-0 tie against St. Scholastica yesterday. MORE

August 31, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine cross county team made the trip to Collegeville, Minn. to participate in their first meet of the season in a dual against St. Ben’s. MORE


Wildcat soccer opens season with 0-0 tie

August 31, 2007 - The College of St. Catherine soccer team started their 2007 season this afternoon against St. Scholastica in the Advantage Emblem Cup. Ninety-minutes of regulation and two overtimes were not enough to decide a winner and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. MORE


Stacey takes lead in Wildcat tennis program
August 30, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine’s Director of Athletics Eric Stacey has been named head coach of the Wildcat tennis program. Stacey had previously held the position for the Wildcat tennis program from 1997-2005 before being named director in the summer of 2005. He will continue his role as the Director of Athletics. MORE

Wildcat basketball adds two more for 07-08

A
ugust 16, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine basketball team added two more first-year players to the 2007-08 roster. Both Mackenzie Grimstad and Michaela Magler are slated to be a part of the Wildcats in 07-08.

Grimstad (Missoula, Mont.) averaged 19 points per game and shot 51% from beyond the arc during her senior season. In addition, Grimstad was named to the All-State and state tournament All-Tournament team during her final season. She was a three-year starter on a team that made three consecutive appearances in the state tournament. Grimstad will be a political science/pre-law major at St. Kate’s.

Magler (St, Paul, Minn./ Concordia Academy) was a starter on a team that finished 21-7 her senior season. Magler will be looked at to bring that experience to a young Wildcat team in 07-08. Michaela will be a nursing major at St. Kate's.

“I will be looking for both Mackenie and Michaela to make a contribution during our upcoming season,” stated Wildcat head coach Gary Rufsvold. “Both of them have great experience against good competition and they will be a great fit with our returning players,” added Rufsvold.


AVCA recognizes Wildcat Volleyball

June 20, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine volleyball team has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with a Team Academic award for the 2006-2007 season. The AVCA awarded 303 schools nationally with the Team Academic Award for the 2006-2007 season. MORE


Wildcat basketball announces ’07 recruiting class

June 1, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine basketball team is pleased to announce that seven student-athletes have committed to enroll in the fall of 2007. Wildcat head coach Gary Rufsvold is pleased with the talent that is going to become part of a program that reached the MIAC playoffs last season. MORE


Two Wildcats named to All-Conference softball team

May 15, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine softball team had two student-athletes named to the MIAC All-Conference softball team. University of St. Thomas junior pitcher/utility player Maria Bye was named the MIAC Player and Pitcher of the Year. MORE






Wildcat athletics hands out year-end awards

May 14, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine athletic department handed out its year-end awards at a banquet on Monday afternoon. In addition to awards voted on by the coaches all student-athletes who were named to the MIAC’s All-Sportsmanship and All-Conference teams were also recognized. MORE

May 12, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine track and field team wrapped up its 2007 season on Saturday afternoon at the MIAC Championships. The Wildcats finished the meet in 11th place with 10 team points. MORE

May 10, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine athletic department is pleased to announce that Tobi Thorsell has been named an assistant coach with the Wildcat soccer team. Tobi comes the program with a wealth of soccer knowledge and experience including MIAC experience as a player while attending Gustavus Adolphus College. MORE


Wildcat players and staff work with area youth

May 10, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine soccer team along with the coaching staff recently took part in a week-long soccer clinic with youth players from HGRA (Highland Grove Rec Association). Over 800 young players got a chance to be coached and work with current Wildcat soccer players at the annual HGRA soccer clinic. Players in attendance were between the ages of 5 and 15. MORE


Meissner finishes fourth at MIAC Heptathlon

May 4, 2007 - The College of St. Catherine's Sarah Meissner finished fourth at the MIAC Heptathlon Championships which concluded today on the campus of Carleton College. Meissner ended the event with 4131 points, good enough for the second spot in school history and also is a provisional qualifying score for the national meet. MORE

March 20, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine tennis team won both of its matches on Monday in Orlando. In the early match, the Wildcat defeated Illinois Wesleyan 7-2 and followed that up with a 6-3 win over Babson College. MORE






Wildcat softball falls to Doane College
March 19, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine lost their second game of the day on Monday afternoon to Doane College. The 11-1 loss comes on the heals of an 8-0 loss earlier in the day to Amherst.

The Wildcats have won one of their first four games of the Sun West Tournament in Orange, California. They will resume play this afternoon when they play Amherst and Tufts.


Wildcat tennis gets win in Orlando
March 19, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine tennis team won its match in Orlando on Monday morning. The Wildcats defeated Illinois Wesleyan by the score of 7-2.

The Wildcats won all three doubles matches to seal the win. The Wildcats will face Babson College later on today. Tomorrow, the ‘Cats will take on Kalamazoo College and Mills College.

Wildcat swimming hands out team awards
March 13, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine swimming team handed out its 2006-07 team awards at their annual banquet on Sunday evening. Erica Campbell (Jr., Baxter, Minn.) was honored as Most Valuable and Jen Lippitt (So., Madison, Wis.) was selected as Most Dedicated. Amanda Gustason (Sr., Virginia, Minn.) was named Most Inspirational and Katherine Millerbernd was named Most Improved. The team captains for the 2007-08 season are Campbell and Allie Jones (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.). MORE
