Wildcat Softball sweeps Augsburg
April 17, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine softball team won both games of a double header against Augsburg College on Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats have won four of their last six MIAC contests.

In game one the Auggies scored what was to be their only runs of the game in the top of the first inning. The Auggies capitalized on two Wildcat errors in the first inning, scoring two unearned runs.

The score stood 2-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Angie Johnson (Sr., Wadena, Minn.) cut that lead in half with a solo home run.

In the bottom of the fifth the Wildcats mounted a two-out rally, scoring what would become the game winning runs. With two outs, Shannon Bagwill (So., Cottage Grove, Minn.) singled and pitcher Kayla Webster (Fy., Billings, Mont.) helped her own cause by hitting two-run home run.

Webster shut the Auggies down in both the sixth and seventh innings to seal the 3-2 win.

In a replay of game one, a clutch hit proved to be the difference for the Wildcats. This time it was a hit in the bottom of the seventh inning that sealed a 3-2 win for the Wildcats.

With the score tied 2-2 and runners on first and second, Morgan Kane (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) ended the game with an RBI single to right-center field, securing the sweep for the Wildcats.

Wildcat pitcher Kayla Webster was the winning pitcher in both games.

The Wildcats will resume MIAC action Thursday when they travel to Northfield to play St. Olaf.
