Wildcat softball splits pair with St. Ben’s
April 25, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine softball team split a pair of games on Wednesday afternoon against the College of St. Benedict. With the split, the Wildcats currently sit in a tie with Concordia for sixth place in the MIAC with a record of 7-9.
The Wildcats struck first in game one when Kayla Webster (Fy., Billings, Mont.) hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning. The lead didn’t last long as the Blazers evened the game in the bottom of the first scoring a run on a pair of hits.
The Wildcats grabbed the lead right back in the second when Jess Lewandowski (Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) started a three run rally to make the score 4-1. Lewandowski made it 5-1 in the third when she hit her seventh home run of the season.
Lewandowski allowed one more run in the fourth but shut the Blazers out the rest of the way to secure a 7-4 win and her seventh win of the season.
In a replay of game one the Wildcats started quick, scoring two runs in the top of the first on a two run home run by Lewandowski. With her two home runs on the day and eight on the season, Lewandowski is now tied with Rita Pomeroy (2005) for the single season record.
The rest of the game was all Blazers as they tied it up in the bottom of the first, added two more in both the second and the fifth innings, on their way to a 6-2 win.
The Wildcats will look to even their conference record at 9-9 when they host Hamline University tomorrow at 4:00.
