Wildcat soccer defeats Northland College
September 1, 2007 – The College of St. Catherine soccer team defeated Northland College 4-2 today in the second game of the St. Scholastica Advantage Emblem Cup. The win for the Wildcats comes on the heels of 0-0 tie against St. Scholastica yesterday.
The Wildcats dug themselves a hole early, surrendering a goal in just the second minute of action. Twelve minutes later, first-year player Gina Thorwick (Maplewood, Minn./Roseville) tied the score at one.
In the second half Northland once again took the lead on a goal in the 52nd minute, making it 2-1. The lead would not last long as the Wildcats rallied back, scoring three goals in 15 minutes. Thorwick, Megan Dean (Fy, MF, Pomona, Calif./San Dimas) and Kelsey Nistler (Fy, Champlin, Minn./Champlin) each scored goals in the second half in the 4-2 Wildcat victory.
“We played an excellent second half, these girls showed a lot of heart, rallying back for a deficit two different times,” stated Wildcat head coach Steve Bellis. “We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend and it will be valuable as we look forward into the season,” added Bellis.
The Wildcats will be back in action Thursday against Wartburg.
