Application and Selection
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR STUDENT ASSISTANTS IN BACCALAUREATE PROGRAMS
Applications are evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Junior or Senior status preferred
- Overall GPA of 3.2 preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency with the general knowledge appropriate to the discipline
- Ability to work approximately 13 hours per week (semester/trimester) or 20 hours per week (J-term and summer)
- Enrolled at least half time at the College of St. Catherine
(Day = 6 Credits; WEC = 4 Credits)
- Quality of application (completed in a thorough and thoughtful manner; all applications must be word-processed; no hand-written applications will be accepted)
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR STUDENT ASSISTANTS IN ASSOCIATE PROGRAMS
Student should demonstrate the following:
- A commitment to and growth in the educational process;
- The possession of a unique background, skill set or history which will enhance your contribution to this work;
- A commitment to fostering understanding among people of different backgrounds and identities;
- The ability to see beyond your own struggles and obstacles and contribute positively to your graduating class, campus, community or future profession;
- The ability to manage multiple life challenges which might include significant employment hours, parenting, physical and/or learning disabilities;
- Awareness of the struggle with being educationally underserved;
- Demonstrated proficiency with the general knowledge appropriate to the discipline;
- Ability to work approximately 13 hours per week (semester/trimester) or 20 hours per week (J-term and summer)
- Enrolled at least half time at the College of St. Catherine (6 credits).
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR MENTORS
- Be employed by CSC (can be faculty or staff, full time, part time or adjunct)
- Be committed to providing a meaningful learning experience for student assistant
- Have sufficient time allocated to mentor and provide feedback to student assistant
- Commit to participate in initial mentor orientation session, a joint session with student assistants, a mid-semester mentor meeting, and a final evaluation of the experience
- Previous experience mentoring students preferred
- Provide a clearly defined project and expectations for student participation and learning
Additionally, for Teaching Assistants:
Previous successful completion of the course (or equivalent) for which she will be the TA
Capacity to lead group discussions or learning activities
Ability to work one-on-one with a diversity of students
Additionally, for Research Collaborators:
Possess basic research skills
Capacity to learn and engage in research methods necessary for the project
Ability to work independently and to complete projects in a timely manner
Additionally, for Program Development Assistants:
Be able to function autonomously at times
Capacity to learn and engage in program development
Ability to work independently and plan and implement projects in a timely manner
