The Socio-Economic Lessons of Hurricane Katrina
Wednesday, March 8, 2006
3:00-4:30 p.m.
Centers of Excellence, CDC 210

Hurricane Katrina exposed the race and class divide in America and jolted our collective conscience. However, awareness and discussion of these issues receded faster than water in New Orleans. This learn-in examined the social and economic causes of economic divide in America based on class, gender and race. Small groups discussed 1) race and class in America 2) Poverty in America 3) Media's role in America 4) Government failture and 5) environmental issues. Over 40 people crowded into the Centers of Excellence for a slide show, presentation, and discussions lead by Nanck Heitzeg and Deep Shikha.
Co-sponsored by the Economics and CRST Departments
