Minnesota Achieve Scholarship Program

The Minnesota Achieve Scholarship program addresses two critical barriers to college attendance: lack of academic preparation and lack of financial access. Eligible Minnesota high school graduates who complete any number of the four rigorous course sets and who complete the application process for the Achieve Scholarship, could earn a one-time scholarship to help pay for their education at a college or university in Minnesota.

St. Kate’s students whose financial aid award includes an estimated Minnesota Achieve Scholarship are expected to complete the application process through the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (MOHE). The University cannot make up lost funding due to a student’s failure to submit an application for this program.

Eligibility

To be eligible, all students must:
  • Have graduated from a high school located in Minnesota between January 1, 2008, and December 31, 2008, or on or after January 1, 2010
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Meet the definition of Minnesota resident used for state financial aid programs
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Attend an eligible public or private post-secondary institution in Minnesota
  • Meet additional academic requirements based on their graduation date

Award amount

Estimated awards of $1,200 are anticipated for eligible students who submit the Achieve Scholarship application to the state by August 31, 2010, and have a $0 Expected Parent Contribution ($0 Expected Student Contribution for independent students) based on results from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Due to state budget constraints, the amount of Achieve Scholarship awards is subject to change. Students must register for 15 credits to receive the award.

Online Course Completion. Eligible students who graduated after January 1, 2010, and who have completed at least one online course while in high school may receive an additional annual award of $150 to be used in conjunction with the Achieve Scholarship award. If the online course is not clearly identified on the official high school transcript, the student may be asked to provide additional documentation.

*Note: students who graduated between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2009, are no longer eligible to apply for the Minnesota Achieve Scholarship. They must have applied for and received the scholarship in the first year after graduation from high school.

How to apply

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  2. Review eligibility requirements for your year of graduation from high school and submit an application form online at the Minnesota Achieve Scholarship website before August 31, 2010.
