ORLD 7070
Leadership in the Public Forum
Credits: 3 cr.
Course Description:
This intensive course will engage you in the exploration of leadership and power in the public forum. It will provide you with a better understanding of your and your organization's role in engaging in government processes and influencing public policy.
Through the use of current events and historical review, we will analyze options and examine ways in which you can engage in the process and foster systemic change. You will learn how to take advantage of the opportunities and benefits of civic engagement. The instructor will share with you what she knows from her own life-experience as a state legislator. You will also learn from the experiences of various guest speakers and outside class activities and resources. We will explore how public policy affects all of our lives and how you can use your power to shape it.
This will be a highly experiential/interactive class— composed of guest speakers, student and multimedia presentations, interactive activities and class discussions. One of the class sessions will take place in the State Capitol.
Prerequisites:
ORLD 6200.
