Graduate Admission
Program Admission Requirements
MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION (MAED)
Application deadlines for priority admission to options/specializations in this program are set annually. Contact the Office of Graduate Admission to obtain the priority application dates. Applications received after a priority deadline has passed are considered on a space-available basis.
In addition to providing evidence of a baccalaureate degree and academic preparedness, applicants wishing to pursue work leading to the MAED degree must submit the following:
- completed application form.
- non-refundable $35 application fee (waived for St. Catherine’s current students and alumnae).
- official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended.
- copy of current teaching license (if applying for the MAED — Curriculum and Instruction program).
- personal statement.
- two academic or professional recommendations.
- official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) results if cumulative GPA is less than 3.0.
- satisfactory Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (for applicants whose native language is other than English). This requirement is waived for students who have completed a baccalaureate or graduate degree in the United States.
Those applying to the Montessori Credential or Montessori Credential/Initial Licensure option must submit a second official transcript from the institution that granted the applicant’s highest degree, as well as documentation of any Montessori credential already held.
Applicants with post-secondary education or licensure outside the United States
An applicant with post-secondary course work or a college or university degree completed outside the United States must submit an official evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluation service, such as World Education Services (WES), as well as original transcripts and official translations of all documents not in English. All costs related to document translation and evaluation are the applicant’s responsibility. Applicants who are international students
Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents also must submit a St. Catherine University International Student Application and Certification of Finances form. Applicants should refer to the MAED Application Brochure for specific instructions regarding admission requirements and application forms. Fulfillment of the admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.
Provisional Admission
At the discretion of the MAED program director, some students who do not meet all admission requirements at the time of application may be admitted provisionally to the degree program. Examples of grounds for provisional acceptance may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- students whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0. Students admitted provisionally due to low GPA must achieve a graduate GPA of 3.0 or better after completing their first eight semester credits in the program.
- students who are in the process of completing their undergraduate degree. Students admitted provisionally pending successful completion of their bachelor’s degree must document completion of their degree by requesting that an official transcript be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admission prior to beginning graduate classes.
- students who have not submitted all required application materials. Any student admitted provisionally due to an incomplete application must submit all outstanding materials within 30 days of acceptance to the program, or prior to beginning graduate classes (whichever occurs first).
MASTER OF ARTS IN HOLISTIC HEALTH STUDIES (MAHS)
Application priority deadlines for admission into this program are set annually. Contact the Office of Graduate Admission to obtain the priority application dates. Applications to the MAHS program received after a priority deadline has passed are considered on a space-available basis.
In addition to providing evidence of a baccalaureate degree and academic preparedness, an applicant wishing to pursue work leading to the MAHS degree must submit the following:
- completed application form.
- non-refundable $35 application fee (waived for St. Catherine’s current students and alumnae).
- official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended.
- two academic or professional recommendations.
- personal statement.
- resumé.
- satisfactory Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (for applicants whose native language is other than English). This requirement is waived for students who have completed a baccalaureate or graduate degree in the United States.
No Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or other tests are required to complete the application process for the MAHS program. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. A limited number of exceptions may be made to this requirement; such students would be admitted on a provisional basis.
Applicants also participate in an interview with the MAHS program director and faculty.
Applicants with post-secondary education or licensure outside the United States
An applicant with post-secondary course work or a college or university degree completed outside the United States must submit an official evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluation service, such as World Education Services (WES), as well as original transcripts and official translations of all documents not in English. At the discretion of the MAHS program director, some students who do not meet all admission requirements at the time of application may be admitted provisionally to the degree program. Examples of grounds for provisional acceptance may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- students whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0. Students admitted provisionally due to low GPA must achieve a graduate GPA of 3.0 or better during their first six semester credits in the program.
- students who are in the process of completing their undergraduate degree. Students admitted provisionally pending successful completion of their bachelor’s degree must document completion of their degree by requesting that an official transcript be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admission prior to beginning graduate classes.
- students who have not submitted all required application materials. Any student admitted provisionally due to an incomplete application must submit all outstanding materials within 30 days of acceptance to the program, or prior to beginning graduate classes (whichever occurs first).
An additional semester of provisional acceptance status may be extended to the student if the program director determines that circumstances warrant such an extension.

MASTER OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE (MLIS)
Admission to the program is competitive, with two application deadlines each year. Contact the Office of Graduate Admission to obtain upcoming application deadline dates. In addition to providing evidence of a baccalaureate degree and academic preparedness, an applicant wishing to pursue work leading to the MLIS degree must submit the following: • completed application form.
- non-refundable application fee of $35 (waived for St. Catherine’s current students and alumnae).
- two academic or professional recommendations.
- personal statement.
- resumé.
- official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended.
- official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) results, if applicant’s cumulative GPA is less than 3.0. This requirement is waived for students who have completed a graduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- satisfactory Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (for applicants whose native language is other than English). This requirement is waived for students who have completed a baccalaureate or graduate degree in the United States.

Provisional Admission
Provisional admission is possible only for students enrolled in their final term leading to a baccalaureate degree. Provisional admission converts to full admission upon receipt of the final undergraduate transcript with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
MASTER OF ARTS IN NURSING (MANU)
Admission to this program is competitive, with an application deadline that is set annually. Contact the Office of Graduate Admission to obtain the next application deadline date. In addition to providing evidence of a baccalaureate degree and academic preparedness, an applicant wishing to pursue work leading to the MANU degree must submit the following:
- completed application form.
- non-refundable $35 application fee (waived for St. Catherine’s current students and alumnae).
- official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended.
- evidence of a baccalaureate degree or upper division second major in nursing from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, with a grade of no less than B– in every nursing course.
- prerequisite course work: applicants must have completed a post-secondary statistics course inclusive of inferential and descriptive statistics with a grade of not less than C (or S). This requirement is waived for applicants who already have a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
- current nursing license.
- two years of recent clinical practice. Applicants to the Nurse Practitioner concentration in pediatric or adult-gerontological options must have at least one year of experience in the area of specialization. Applicants to the neonatal nurse practitioner option must have two years recent experience in a level-three nursery.
- personal statement.
- three academic or professional recommendations.

An applicant who attended or graduated from a postsecondary institution outside the Unites States, but whose nursing education has been completed entirely in the United States, may use a NACES-approved evaluation service, such as World Education Services (WES). MASTER OF ARTS IN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY (MAOT)
Application priority deadlines for admission into this program are set annually. Contact the Office of Graduate Admission to obtain the priority application dates. Applications to the MAOT program received after a priority deadline has passed are considered on a space-available basis.
In addition to providing evidence of a baccalaureate degree and academic preparedness, an applicant wishing to pursue work leading to the MAOT degree must submit the following:
- completed application form.
- non-refundable $35 application fee (waived for St. Catherine’s current students and alumnae).
- official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended.
- evidence of prerequisite course work completed with a GPA of 2.75 or better on a 4.0 scale prior to the beginning of fall classes. Specific policies related to prerequisite work are published in the MAOT brochure. Entry-level prerequisites include undergraduate courses in human anatomy and human physiology (at least one must include a lab), general psychology, lifespan developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, medical terminology, and statistics. Post-professional prerequisites include occupational therapy major courses and a statistics course. At least three prerequisites must have been completed at the time of application.
- personal statement. summary of work and volunteer experiences. The MAOT program strongly recommends that applicants show evidence of careful career exploration through work and/or volunteer experiences.
- three academic or professional recommendations.
- satisfactory Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (for applicants whose native language is other than English). In addition to providing evidence of a baccalaureate degree and academic preparedness, an applicant wishing to pursue work leading to the MAOL degree must submit the following: • completed application form.

- official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended.
- personal statement.
- two academic or professional recommendations.
- current resume highlighting professional experience (a minimum of two years is required) and volunteer experiences.

- minimum of 100 hours of physical therapy or other healthcare clinical experience during the three years prior to applying to the DPT program.

Admission to this program is competitive, with an annual application deadline of January 10.
In addition to providing evidence of a baccalaureate degree and academic preparedness, an applicant wishing to pursue work leading to the MSW degree must submit the following:
- completed application form.
- non-refundable $35 application fee (waived for St. Catherine/St. Thomas current students and alumnae).
- official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended.
- prerequisite course work: applicants must complete undergraduate course work in human biology, statistics/research methods and lifespan developmental psychology. Applicants who have not completed these courses at the time of acceptance to the MSW program must make arrangements to do so prior to enrolling in the graduate course work.
- resume including social work/social service work and volunteer experience.
- personal statement.
- three academic or professional recommendation forms and accompanying letters.
