Student Complaint Process

(For Academic Evaluation) There are two kinds of situations in which students may feel inappropriate conduct has occurred. The first is in academic evaluation; the second is discrimination. For information about how to resolve discrimination complaints, see LeGuide.

The academic evaluation complaint process is as follows: A student who feels an academic evaluation was inappropriate should discuss the evaluation with the faculty member. Most concerns are resolved this way. However, if it is not possible for the student to discuss the evaluation with the faculty member, or if that discussion does not resolve the concern, the student may discuss the evaluation with the program director.

If the concern is not resolved by discussion with the program director, or if the program director is the object of the concern, then the student may request a review in writing by the appropriate academic dean. As dictated by the individual case, the dean may meet jointly with the student and faculty member to resolve the complaint, or may involve others in resolving the matter, including asking a panel to hear the concern. The decision at this level is final.
