Methods and Materials in Elementary Mathematics I
Credits: 2 cr.
Course Description:
Teaching of the basic skills and nomenclature of mathematics, including arithmetic and geometry, using the Montessori materials. Includes a study of numbers, the decimal system, the four operations, fractions, some algebra, a sensorial introduction to shape, a thorough study of geometric shapes, especially plane and other topics accompanied by theory and rationale.
Emphasis is on curriculum development, materials, methodology and the development of mathematical literacy.
