Nurse as Educator


Credits: 4 cr.

Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive, evidence-based foundation for the nurse educator role. The didactic component encompasses contextual content of the historical, current and future landscapes of higher education and the healthcare system as they relate to nursing and nursing education.

Critical reflection and dialogue provide insight into ethical, legal and leadership issues. Assessment of learning styles, needs and characteristics of the diverse learner, analysis of the teaching learning process, and use of appropriate instructional techniques and strategies are included.

The practicum integrates course content and actual teaching experiences that provide opportunities to guide, support and facilitate learners in a variety of settings. Mutually respectful teaching-learning relationships that invite connection and interaction, reflection and expression, self-awareness and reciprocity are encouraged.

Prerequisites:
NURS 6000.
