Grief Counseling and Therapy


Credits: 3 cr.

Course Description:
The overall purpose of this course is to provide a theoretical framework for understanding loss and grief issues as they relate to social work practice. Special attention is given to non-death loss.

Skills are taught for use in recognizing and addressing loss and grief with clients of diverse backgrounds in a variety of practice settings. You have opportunities to develop:

1) the knowledge base regarding loss in its various forms and the manifestations of the grief counseling; and

2) skills relevant to self-assessment and appropriate and ethical social work practice in the areas of loss and grief.
