Just the Facts

The coeducational Master of Arts in Nursing program offers two areas of concentration that prepare nurses for advanced nursing roles in various aspects of healthcare:
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Nurse Educator (NEW!)

    All the master's degree specializations provide a strong foundation for doctoral study.

    Each concentration builds on the expertise, experience and skills of the professional nurse. The program challenges nurses to integrate their professional experience with new knowledge and skills in order to assume an advanced, even more critical, role in the provision of healthcare. Core content for all concentrations includes critical decision-making, ethical leadership, cultural diversity, nursing theory, nursing research, evidence-based practice, administrative problem solving, and health policy.

    Unique Features

    • nurse practitioner programs in neonatal, pediatric, and adult-gerontology;
    • degree completion in two academic years;
    • strong emphasis on course content and clinical experiences based on current and projected needs in a changing health-care environment;
    • courses scheduled in late afternoon/early evening and on weekends;
    • clinical placements arranged with you by the clinical option coordinator (rural students may do clinicals in or near their home communities);
    • highly qualified faculty with expertise in advanced practice and graduate nursing education; and
    • advanced standing for professionals with a master's degree in nursing or those who have completed the College of St. Catherine certificate program for nurse practitioners.
