Accreditation
The Master of Library and Information Science degree is currently awarded by Dominican University, located in River Forest, Illinois, and is accredited by the American Library Association.

The College of St. Catherine has been granted Candidacy status by the Committee on Accreditation of the American Library Association. Candidacy status is an indication that the College of St. Catherine has voluntarily committed to participate in the American Library Association (ALA) accreditation process and is actively seeking accreditation. Candidacy status does not indicate that the program is accredited, nor does it guarantee eventual accreditation of the program by ALA.

Since 1992, the College of St. Catherine has offered an ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree program in collaboration with Dominican University. In September 2006, the St. Catherine MLIS program began the two-year Candidacy process required to achieve accreditation for a program separate from Dominican University.

Full accreditation status for the St. Catherine MLIS program is expected in January 2009. Students who begin the program in Fall 2006 or later, finish their degree program in December 2007 or later, and successfully complete all requirements of the degree program, will be granted an ALA-accredited MLIS degree by the College of St. Catherine (the January 2009 accreditation approval is retroactively applied to degrees completed during the 2007-2008 school year).

In the event that the accreditation process is delayed, all St. Catherine students who successfully complete the MLIS program requirements will be considered for an ALA-accredited degree by Dominican University. Students who began the MLIS program prior to Fall 2006 will complete the Dominican University program requirements, and the degree will be granted by Dominican University
