Important information for new students
After August 1, incoming students must wait until they arrive on campus for fall semester to apply for positions.
How often are jobs posted?
New positions are posted on the KatieClick website as they are received. New opportunities may be posted at any time. Keep an eye on the website if you are looking for a position. Apply for those that interest you.
What experience can I put on an application?
Include any opportunities that demonstrate the skills needed to successfully perform the position inwhich youare interested. This can range from school committees and entry level work with a business, to lawn mowing, babysitting or dog walking jobs.
Can I apply for more than one position at a time?
Yes, you may apply for more than one position at a time. We encourage you to apply for all positions that interest you and you keep applying as new positions are posted.
What is 'work-study' preference?
All students are encouraged to apply for student employment opportunities. However, the hiring managers will review first those applications submitted by individuals with federal or state work-study funds awarded in their financial aid package. This does not mean that those students without federal or state work-study cannot receive a position on campus. All final hiring decisions are based on experience, education, skills and abilities, and not solely on the basis of a student's work-study standing. If all factors are equal, the federal or state work-study student would receive consideration first.
International students will also be reviewed in the first group of applications since federal laws and regulations state that these students are unable to work off-campus.
How do I know if I got a job?
You will be contacted by the department's hiring manager to either interview over the phone or to schedule an in-person interview. Once you have interviewed, the hiring manager will contact you if you have been hired. If you are not hired, you will be notified by KatieClick.
Can I follow-up with the hiring manager if I have not received any feedback?
Yes, you may follow up with the hiring manager to find out the status of a position for which you applied. You can also check with the Career Development office to see if they have any information on the status of the position.
What are typical student wages?
The basic wages for first-year positions is $7.75 per hour. For returning years at the same position, the wage is $8.00 per hour. Wages for advanced positions that require greater skill and responsibility are $8.25 per hour.

I just started a job on campus, how do I get a timecard?
- All student workers must fill out a certification form, which the student and supervisor both must sign. This form can be printed off the website once your supervisor contacts Human Resources that you have been hired.
- A new certification form is needed for every position in which you are working. New certification forms are also needed every academic year and a new form is needed if you are working during the summer. If a student has not worked on campus before, I-9 and W-4 forms must also be completed before a student will receive a timecard or get paid.
- Separate I-9s and W-4s are not needed for each position. These forms only need to be done once while a student is at St. Kate’s unless the student wants to change the W-4 deductions.
How many hours can I work each week?
Due to federal laws and regulations, International students may not exceed 20 hours per week. However, all other students may work up to the number of hours per week that they feel comfortable. We strongly suggest that no student work over 20 hours per week and feel that working 10-15 hours per week will help a student increase her income while not affecting academic performance.
Do breaks (J-term, spring, summer) count toward my financial aid award?
J-term and other short breaks, such as spring break, count toward your financial aid award. However, if you are working during these breaks, your award can generally be increased to allow for the extra hours. Summer is considered a non-enrollment period, so it does not count toward your financial aid award. You are required to pay taxes (FICA, Medicare, state & federal) during this time.
What is the Community Service Program and am I eligible to participate?
This program allows students to gain valuable experience in the community by working with a non-profit agency while still receiving their work-study funds. If you are interested in participating or finding out more about this program, check out the Community Work and Learning Office website or contact the Student Employment Office.
