The first-line of defense agains viruses is using an anti-virus application. If you live in a Residence Hall and access the St. Kate's network via Cisco Clean Access, you must have an Anti-Virus software installed. You can use any version of McAfee, Norton or Trend Micro. if you choose, you can install our free version of McAfee Enterprise. Students who do not live on campus are welcome to use this also. EVERYONE must use something! Installing anti-virus software and running scans weekly can help prevent viruses, or stop them before they become too devastating to your computer.

Note: Anti-virus software does not protect you agains all types of infestations. Some are trojans, some are spyware, and some are viruses. Not even all viruses come in one-size-fits-all. It is important that you have one anti-virus software installed. You should also have an anti-spyware application. While you can only have one anti-virus application, you can have multiple anti-spyware software packages installed. We recommend Spybot. Please see the Help Guide Spybot for more information.
