Scanning to create a PDF or JPG

PDF (Portable Document Format) or JPG (image)

1. Launch Omni Page 15.0 - Located in CDC 121
a. Go to: Start > Programs > ScanSoft OmniPage 15.0 > OmniPage 15.0


Place the document face down on the scanner. Position it in the bottom right corner.
    2. On the main menu in OmniPage, go to: File > Get Page > Scan (OR Click on Button #1 and from pull down select Scan B/W (text) or Grayscale (images)
    a. The application may need to locate the scanner. Follow steps for the Scanner Setup Wizard, select TWAIN: hp scanjet 8200 series #2 TWAIN. See Help Guides - Scanner Setup Wizard for details

      OR


      3. Select Stop Loading Pages – If you want to continue scanning, you still need to select
      Stop Loading Pages. Place the second page in the scanner.

      To scan additional pages:
      A. Go to: File > Get Page > Scan (or click Button #1)
      B. In the dialogue box Continue Automatic Processing, select Stop Loading Pages
      C. Repeat for each additional page
      4. OPTIONAL: If you want Save the original Scan, go to: File > Save OPD > name it descriptively
      a. This will create an Omni Page file with an .opd extension
        5. To create the PDF file, go to: File > Export Results > Save to File (Or Click on Button #3 )

        OR


        a. Locate the drive where you wish to save the document, such as a network drive (e.g. gdabrowski on 'File Server (cluster)’(U:)
        b. Select the file type: PDF – Portable Document Format (*.pdf) OR JPG - JPEG Bitmap (*.jpg)

        c. Name file descriptively, for example: syllabusART201
        d. Quit the Omni Page application. Go to: File > Exit

        Test the PDF file or JPG:
        i. Go to My Computer on the desktop.
        ii. Click the document where the file was saved, the network drive, for example:.gdabrowski on "Cluster" (U) or Public on “Isis” (P:)
        iii. Double click the file to open.
        As a note: For a PDF or jpg you do not perform the OCR (optical character recognition) (Button #2). The OCR converts the text into a word document.
