Foreign Policy Forums
Spring, 2002
Foreign Policy Forums were held as a lead-up to Madeleine Albright’s visit to the campus. Forums included: Lifting of Sanctions on Iraq, sponsored by Women Against Military Madness and the Twin Cities Campaign to Lift Sanctions on Iraq; US Foreign Policy, discussed issues such as democratization, security, global markets/environmental policies, and humanitarian policies; US Intervention Strategies, addressed US military efforts, diplomacy, economic sanctions and humanitarian aid.

Hypatia II
Spring, 2002
This second-annual social justice conference explored the most critical economic issues facing women today from both local and international perspectives. The conference sought to develop innovative activist curriculum that can be used by women to create systemic social change in their communities. Keynote speakers were Mary Elizabeth Clark, S.S.J., a sister of St. Joseph, Philadelphia who has worked as a lobbyist for the past five years with NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby. Izetta Autumn Mobley, a junior at Brown University, helped to organize the first National Youth Summit in the summer of 2000. A Legislative Panel consisting of US Representative Betty McCollum ’87, (D-Minnesota), State Senator Mee Moua (DFL) and State Representative Neva Walker (DFL) discussing how they were elected and how they've continued to be activists within the political system. Workshops offered were: domestic violence, welfare reform, community activism, conflict resolution, gender equity, affordable housing, women in prison, youth leadership, economic justice, women with disabilities, environmental racism, and campaign finance reform.

Rosa Guy, Acclaimed Black Arts Movement Writer

The Center for Women, Economic Justice and Public Policy, the Bush Grant and Coffee House Press welcomed author Rosa Guy for a residency at the College of St. Catherine. Guy is the author of 15 books, including the award winning novels MY lOVE, MY LOVE; A MEASURE OF TIME; MIRROR OF HER OWN and her newly re-issued BIRD AT MY WINDOW. She co-founded the Harlem Writer's Guild and she is the winner of the Coretta Scott Kind Award, The New York Times Outstanding Book of the Year citation and the American Library Association's Best Book Award. During her residency at the college, Rosa Guy discussed her writings, her activism and her experiences as a black woman author in the changing social landscape of twentieth century America.

Women's Research Forum
Invisible No Longer: Economic Justice for Women

The Forum was an annual gathering to bring together the best and most recent information available about challenges facing women in church and society. The information was presented in ways that equip and motivate people for concrete action and results will be published annually.
Presenters included Nasrin Jewell, PhD. Professor of Economics, College of St. Catherine, Amata Miller, IHM, PhD., Visiting Professor of Economics, College of St. Catherine and Kathleen Tomlin, Public Policy Manager for the Office of Social Justice, Catholic Charities.
This event was co-sponsored by the Commission on Women of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the College of St. Catherine's Center for Women, Economic Justice and Public Policy, and the University of St. Thomas.
