Faces of Change: A New India
May 12, 2004
Diana Ponraja, a student of International Relations, Jyothi Gupta, Physical Therapy faculty, and Deep Shikha, Economics faculty presented on their recent trip and research in India. These St. Kate's community members made great connections to community projects aiding in basic services and needs that are otherwise not met. This was an important step in creating a Global Search for Justice course that will go to India and witness and interact first hand with the new challenges the women of India face in this age of Globalization.

Searching for America's Heart I
The War on Poverty Revisited
April 27, 2004
CSC and Ramsey Action Programs, Inc. hosted a town meeting with keynote Peter Edelman, a Georgetown University Law Center professor, Assistant Secretary of Health and Social Services in the Clinton Administration, a legislative aide to Robert Kennedy, and author of Searching for America's Heart: RFK and the Renewal of Hope. This was the first of a series of three designed to: examine the effectiveness of the 1964 War on Poverty, promote community dialogue about poverty, bring community groups together to work more effectively on impacting poverty, reaffirm the fight against poverty through collaborative action, address issues of poverty and economic inequality through systemic change, sign a declaration of commitment by December 2004 to develop and implement a blueprint for community action by December 31, 2006.

Wellstone Civic Dialogue Project
February 5, 2004
We joined a national night of discussion titled, "Can We Dream Again?" The discussion was about Paul Wellstone's book, Conscience of a Liberal. There was over 650 sites in 38 states who participated in this book discussion.

Conference on Sexual Trafficking of Women and Girls
October 23, 2003
The Center partnered with The Center for Women Policy Studies, Washington DC; to educate the public about the extent of sexual trafficking of women and girls in Minnesota. The goal was to educate then pursue action to change public policy for the protection of women and girls and the punishment of traffickers. The plenary panel included: Mike Hatch, Minnesota Attorney General; The keynote speaker was Leslie Wolfe of the Center for Women Policy Studies. Sandy Pappas and Kathy Tingelstad, MN legislators, worked with conference attendees after the conference to draft legislation and bring it through both the MN house and senate.

Earth Charter Community Summit
September 17, 2003
This event is one of over 30 events worldwide designed to bring communities together. The goal of Earth Charter is for communities to recognize their interdependencies and further the principles of creating just, peaceful communities. Keynote speaker was Kathryn Sikkink, an international expert in the area of "transnational social movements" and their ability to transform the world order and Professor of Political Science at the University of Minnesota.
