Services & Accommodations Available (the most common ones)
1. Testing Center Services: After a student has been approved by the Coordinator of Student Disability Services to receive testing services, s/he is responsible for giving the faculty member a copy of their Accommodation Plan or Support Services Letter and for scheduling their tests with the Testing Specialist. Students are encouraged to schedule all of their tests with the Testing Specialist as soon as they receive their authorization at the beginning of the semester.
Upon receiving the information from the student, the Testing Specialist will send an orange, full page form (the Test Information Form or TIF) to the faculty member to gather information on lecture times and verify test dates, times and course numbers.
When delivering tests to the Testing Center, the faculty member is asked to fill out and attach an orange, half page Test Form to identify the tests and provide additional instruction for the specialist concerning resources students can use during the test and the delivery of completed tests. Contact Rachel Thoson with any questions. For more...
2. Alternate Format Print Materials: Our goal is to provide alternate format print materials (enlarged, tape-recorded, brailled, or e-text) on the same day the rest of the class receives the original material. In order to accomplish this when requested, please send the following materials to Debra Gottfried:
- A list of class textbooks/manuals (including required readings and dates assigned)
- Articles, handouts, class syllabus, etc.
Make sure to provide both a print copy and an electronic copy (disk or email attachment) of the item. Faculty are asked to send textbooks and manuals no later than one month before the information is needed in class, due to the time it takes to complete these projects.
If items come up during the class, please send them to Deb a minimum of three days before you hand out the materials to the rest of the class. Make sure to include the date the material is to be handed out in class.
3. General Learning Center Services: Faculty may refer any student to the Learning Center to receive tutoring in specific courses; assistance with writing, study skills and strategies; and help with time-management and organizational skills.
It is extremely helpful if faculty can provide the Coordinator of Student Disability Services with an accurate email address and telephone number for contact purposes. For additional information, please refer to the Disability Access Guide and/or the Learning Center Services Guide (flyers available in the Learning Center). If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the Learning Center staff. Thank you for your support!
