AIDS Statement/Bloodborne Pathogens
Medical evidence indicates that no actual safety risks are created for the transmission of HIV (AIDS virus) in the normal workplace or academic setting. HIV, Hepatitis B and other bloodborne pathogens are spread perinatally, by intimate sexual contact and by exposure to contaminated blood. Education and training programs, as well as the Hepatitis B vaccine series for students and employees in identified high risk training and occupations (e.g., health-care workers), are the best means available to keep students and employees safe and healthy.

No employee or student who tests positive for the HIV antibody, whether symptomatic or not, will be restricted from any area of the university as long as the ability to perform required employment or academic tasks is unaffected and as long as the employee/student does not pose a serious threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.
