Applying for Student Teaching

Education students are responsible for monitoring their course of study and for anticipating all deadlines associated with the application for student teaching. Student teaching is offered yearly in a fourteen week block, either fall or winter/spring term. Students must complete their education course work before student teaching.

In the school year preceding the student teaching term, all prospective student teachers must meet two deadlines:

1. Attendance at the annual application meeting in early October. The date will be posted under Events and Announcements on the Education Department web site. The student teaching applications are distributed at this meeting.

2. Submission of the student teaching application packet by December 10 of the school year preceding student teaching.

The deadlines apply to students intending to student teach either of the terms the following year, either fall or winter/spring. There is no summer student teaching. Deadlines are firm. Students should always be in contact with their academic advisor.

All procedures apply to students who return after a leave of absence or postponement of student teaching. Students are responsible for notifying the education placement office in advance of their plan to reenter the program.

In rare cases, a prospective student teacher may petition, in writing, their respective program director, for a late submission of the student teaching application. Late applications will result in student teaching being delayed until a future term, to be determined by the Program Director.
