Fieldwork - Entry Level

Students complete up to 50 hours of fieldwork each semester/term depending on what program they are in (Day or WEC) and their licensure area.

The first fieldwork placement takes place during the first term of study while the student is taking EDUC 2070/5070 Teachers as Leaders in a Changing Society. This fieldwork must take place in a 20% ethnically diverse school. Students will be placed in fieldwork settings that align with their broad licensure area (elementary, secondary).

This assignment is arranged through the CSC Education Department fieldwork office. The Department maintains school partnerships for this purpose. The only exception to this arrangement would be if a student works in a school that has a 20% ethnically diverse student population in a mainstream classroom. The student would then tell the Placement Office about the school and teacher in order for the teacher to receive the materials for fieldwork.

This fieldwork site will serve as the site for the other courses that the student is taking during the term, such as General Methods. Elementary students will stay in their fieldwork for the Winter Semester/Term.

Over the course of study the student should choose various grade levels so that at the end of student teaching they have experience in many grade levels of their licensure. The levels are primary (grade 1-3) or upper elementary (grade 4-6), middle school (grade 5-8), and secondary (grade 9-12). The K-12 levels are elementary (grade K-6) or secondary (grade 7-12).
