Fieldwork - Methods Level

The methods level fieldwork will be slightly different from the first placement due to the knowledge base that the students have gained in their entry-level courses. Students are encouraged to take on more instructional activities and get a feel for teaching. The student should work with the fieldwork teacher to agree on a way for the student to try leading short activities or lessons.

Most of the methods level fieldwork will occur in a Professional Development School (PDS). A Professional Development School is an area school with which the Education Department has a structured, ongoing partnership to provide graduated, authentic fieldwork experiences. Fieldwork will provide students with opportunities to observe in classrooms, try out teaching skills, collaborate with licensed teachers, and prepare for full-time student teaching. For Secondary and K-12 students the fieldwork will be completed in middle school during their special methods course.
