MAED Curriculum and Instruction

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start your program?
Our program has three start dates throughout the year - Fall, Winter and Summer. See the Graduate Admissions website for deadlines.

How long will it take for me to complete your program?
The MAED, Curriculum and Instruction takes five semesters to complete. Summers are included. For instance, if you began in Fall, 2007, you would attend that semester, Winter 2008, Summer 2008, Fall 2008 and Winter 2009. You would complete the program after Winter semester of 2009.

Do I have to be a licensed teacher to enroll in your program?
Yes, you must be a licensed teacher.

None of my coworkers are ready to commit to a Master's program, and I know that learning teams are an important part of your program. Can I still apply?
Absolutely! When we have a list of all accepted students for the semester, we find out who does or does not have a learning team. We form learning teams for those who do not have one. Every effort is made to partner teachers in similar grade levels. Keep in mind that you may have to have an "E-partner" - someone you communicate with via e-mail and phone.

Do I ever have to come to campus during my program?
Yes. In the final semester of your program, you will be taking EDUC670D, Integration Seminar. One of the requirements of the course is that you come to campus for one Saturday - 8:30-4:00. More information and the Saturday dates for the next three semesters are posted under Integration Seminar.

What is Action Research?
The Action Research project is a key element of the program. This culminating project involves the teacher as primary manager of classroom research - from the determination of the problem through follow up action planning. There is a public presentation of the action research project that takes place in the final course Teachers as Educational Leaders. The presentation is given to a group of colleagues at a faculty meeting or other gathering. The presentation is given at a place of your choosing.
