Administrator Program

Our Administrator program meets the American Montessori Society (AMS) Model One guidelines. It is designed for licensed or practicing school administrators who need the Montessori credential.

An administrator may be any person in a position of school leadership. This could include the principal or head, admissions director, curriculum coordinator, board member or other school leader. It is a program for individuals with demonstrated administrative ability including school finance, legal and licensing, curriculum administration, personnel and supervision, program planning, and evaluation.

There are four phases in the program:

  1. Planning (setting up program to meet the individual's needs)
  2. Academic Study
  3. Administrative Practicum
  4. Final Evaluation
The following characteristics describe a program consistent with the Montessori approach:
  • An comprehensive study of Montessori theory and an in-depth study of Maria Montessori’s writings;
  • An all-inclusive examination of all areas of the Montessori curriculum (geometry, mathematics, language, the arts, sensorial, practical life, science, and the cultural subjects) and the materials/lessons in each area.
  • Understanding of and respect for the individual’s prior experience, current need, innate abilities, and aspirations;
  • Sufficient time to practice and assimilate new ideas and skills, in an atmosphere of collaboration and support;
  • Teachers who serve as role models of good leadership, who are attentive, understanding, patient, encouraging, building community, handling conflicts, role modeling and mentoring; and
  • Learning that is practical and prepares for the challenges of leadership in today’s public, charter, and private schools.
