Theory and Philosophy
We believe that our graduates, as educators of children, must offer each child the opportunity to develop his or her unique and individual potential as a human being. The role of the teacher, guide or director of this developmental process is an important one.
Our task as teacher educators is the preparation of those committed to becoming Montessori specialists. It is essential that each person be offered the opportunity to receive the training in philosophy, theory and methodology as presented by Maria Montessori, as well as the concepts of human growth and development which are age appropriate, with deep respect for childhood as well as for the child as an individual.
Our Montessori educational programs stimulate students to broaden their understanding of themselves, their professional fields and the world in which they live. Faculty and students work together in creating a productive learning environment. In the collaborative environment both the student role and the faculty role are viewed from a holistic perspective. As a result, faculty and students share responsibility for the whole learning experience. Integrating new learning with existing knowledge and experience creates an educational outcome which is greater that the sum of the individual courses.
We also believe that certification of the student as a Montessori teacher is only the beginning of that person's development as a professional and that certification is the significant sign of commitment to that person's on-going process of development within the profession.
